The recently released updated CDC mask guidelines for vaccinated adults have left many patrons wondering if masks are needed when visiting the library. For now, the library will continue to require masks for all visitors, regardless of vaccination status, for the following reasons:

• The library building is a small, enclosed space, not well-suited for social distancing.
• We cannot verify the vaccination status of every patron entering the building.
• We serve children who are not yet eligible for vaccination and we need to think of their safety.

The library’s mask requirement does follow Governor Pritzker’s updated Executive Order 2021-10 which states:

Businesses (includes non-profit entities) are encouraged to prioritize the health and safety of their workers and customers, and may continue to require face coverings and social distancing, even for those who are fully vaccinated.

Thank you for your patience and support as we continue to navigate this pandemic. The health of library users and employees is our top priority.
